BCHD‘s Harm Reduction Syringe Exchange Program (HRSEP)
BCHD‘s Harm Reduction Syringe Exchange Program (HRSEP) has been modeled after successful programs throughout the country. This program is for anyone who uses injection drugs.
Syringe Exchange Programs:
- Reduces the spread of communicable diseases like Hepatitis C and HIV in people who inject drugs.
- Exchanges sterile syringes and needles for contaminated equipment, and properly disposes of contaminated equipment.
- Provides access to other health services, such as drug treatment, along with education, counseling and enrollment in health care coverage.
- Are free and completely anonymous
Services offered at BCHD:
- Sterile syringes in exchange of used syringes
- Rapid Hepatitis C and HIV testing
- Wound care supplies
- Health Education
- Referrals for those who request health services or treatment services
- Free Narcan with training
